Itinerary
Your adventure begins at 9 a.m. with a pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. As you travel through the stunning High Atlas Mountains, you’ll cross the winding Tizi n Tichka pass, offering spectacular panoramic views. Enjoy coffee and photo breaks along the way. Your first major stop is the iconic Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its well-preserved fortified architecture. This Kasbah has served as the backdrop for numerous Hollywood films, including "Gladiator" and "Game of Thrones." A local guide will lead you through the narrow streets, sharing stories of its rich history. After lunch in Ait Ben Haddou, continue southward to Ouarzazate, often dubbed “Morocco’s Hollywood.” This city serves as the gateway to the Sahara and is surrounded by lush valleys where Berbers cultivate dates and vegetables. Your journey concludes in Agdz, nestled at the foot of Jbel Kissane. Enjoy dinner and a restful night at a guesthouse, complete with a beautiful swimming pool and garden.
Following breakfast, head through the scenic Draa Valley, famous for its verdant oases and numerous kasbahs. Stop at Tamegroute to witness traditional pottery-making and explore the local Koranic library. Arriving in M’hamid, enjoy lunch at a guesthouse and take some time to relax by the pool. Then, embark on an exhilarating off-road adventure into the desert, arriving at the luxury desert camp in Erg Chigaga after a 1.5 to 2-hour journey. Here, you can experience camel rides and sandboarding against the stunning backdrop of golden dunes. As evening falls, savour a delicious dinner at the camp. Afterwards, gather around the campfire to enjoy traditional drumming and music performed by local nomads.
Awake in the heart of the dunes, where the camp provides an array of activities to enrich your desert experience. Delight in meals prepared by the camp chef, and partake in camel rides, trekking, or sandboarding. You can also relax in a hammock, enjoy guided walks, or soak up the ambience with informal music around the fire. The luxurious Berber-style tents feature king-size beds, handmade furnishings, and spacious bathrooms equipped with solar-powered amenities. Due to water scarcity, showers are provided through invigorating bucket washes, offering a unique experience amidst the desert landscape. Meals are served under the stars or in a traditional Berber tent, creating an enchanting dining atmosphere.
On your final day, depart the camp after breakfast around 8 a.m. and head off-road towards Lake Iriki, following the historic Rally Paris-Dakar route. Along the way, stop to explore fossil areas and soak in the unique desert landscape. After 2 to 2.5 hours of off-road driving, reach the paved roads at Foum Zguid, where refreshments await. Continue to Taznakht, known for its exquisite Berber carpets. Witness local artisans weaving their crafts before enjoying lunch in the village. The tour concludes with your return to Marrakech in the late afternoon, leaving you with unforgettable memories of the Sahara and its captivating beauty.
